Background

The Alexander Partnership is a deliberately small company offering high level consultancy services for companies of every size. The Founder Partners, David Nairn and Andrew Shepherd, have been consulting and venturing together since 1989.

Serving blue chip clients such as Pepsi-Cola, Rolls Royce Motors, Quaker Oats, British Telecom and Rentokil Initial has required us to work on several continents. Projects usually focus on strategy, operations, distribution, or consumer marketing - all with the objective of profit improvement in a strategic framework and timescale.

Our work for small companies is typically rewarded through growth in the value of our equity stakes, ('venturing'), so we benefit from our contribution in time. Ventures have included the sandwich bar chain Pret a Manger, the decision-support software start-up Right Information Systems and the film & TV recruitment web site, The Production Base. Our equity stakes in all of these have now been successfully sold, while others have taken their place.

However large or small the enterprise, our many decades of experience have been successfully brought to bear on business growth management and profit improvement opportunities. Often working with a client team, the combination of our techniques and know-how with management's industry knowledge invariably proves highly effective.

We typically begin with focused data gathering followed by rigorous analysis. But we know when we know enough - as soon as an issue has been adequately analysed, we turn our attention to effective implementation, tactics or strategy.
